Floor rigidity rises 25 percent and the front suspension tower gains 30 percent more stiffness in a refresh that goes deeper than the skin.
Lexus confirmed the mid-cycle refresh of its second-generation NX on 1 September 2024. Electric range climbs 68 percent. The cabin is effectively new. Pricing remains unannounced for both the US and European markets, and European deliveries are set for early spring 2027.
The update lands as emissions targets tighten on both sides of the Atlantic. The European NX 450h+ now posts 303 hp combined and 62 miles of pure-electric range — numbers that put it above the 37-mile figure that disqualified earlier PHEVs from zero-emission incentives in several EU member states, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) market outlook report, published March 2026. Against the BMW X3 xDrive30e, which offers roughly 50 miles of EV range in its current generation, the revised NX PHEV holds a measurable edge.

What the Sixth-Generation Hybrid Actually Changes
Battery capacity in the NX 450h+ moves from 18.1 kWh to 23.0 kWh — a gain of 4.9 kWh, or 27 percent. That single change drives EV range from 37 miles to 62 miles: a 25-mile improvement, which works out to a 67.6 percent increase when run to two decimal places (25 ÷ 37 × 100 = 67.6%). The European combined system output sits at 303 hp. In the US the outgoing 2026 NX 350h produces 240 hp and the outgoing 450h+ produces 304 hp; the refresh upgrades the 350h to 199 hp with a lighter lithium-ion battery borrowed from the ES 350h. The NX 450h+ reaches 62 mph in 6.3 seconds. The NX 350h takes between 7.1 and 7.8 seconds to the same mark. European PHEV Rules Favour the Larger Battery
The old 18.1 kWh pack gave the NX 450h+ a 37-mile electric range under WLTP conditions. Several EU member states, including the Netherlands and Austria, set their low-emission vehicle incentive thresholds at 50 km (31 miles) minimum — which the previous NX cleared — but a tightened 80 km (50-mile) threshold proposed under draft European Commission fleet CO₂ revision documents, circulated internally in late 2025, would have excluded it. At 62 miles (approximately 100 km), the refreshed model sits comfortably above that proposed line. Kia's ZEV programme illustrates how quickly range thresholds shift the commercial calculus: Kia UK reached 100,000 EVs registered but described the ZEV mandate pace as unrealistic, a tension Lexus appears to be managing through incremental PHEV range extension rather than an abrupt pivot to battery-electric.
Interior Architecture: Drawing on the ES and TZ
Lexus's own product brief — distributed to European market correspondents ahead of the 1 September reveal — cites the NX's new cabin as derived directly from the Lexus ES sedan and the Lexus TZ SUV interior architecture. The document identifies three primary structural changes: a new dashboard, a new centre console, and a revised instrument panel. The 14.0-inch infotainment display sits co-planar with a 12.3-inch driver display. Capacitive HVAC and camera controls occupy the strip above the air vents. The seating position has been lowered — the seat itself is carried over, but its mounting point moves closer to the vehicle's centre of gravity, according to the same brief. Steering wheel diameter drops by 0.39 inches, with telescopic range extended so drivers can pull the wheel closer without raising their seating position. The product brief does not specify the new wheel's outer diameter in absolute terms; that figure was not made available at publication.

A Mid-Cycle Rebuild That Rarely Happens at This Stage
The second-generation NX entered production in 2021. A mid-cycle refresh arriving for model-year 2027 means the platform is roughly five to six years old at launch — not unusual. What is unusual is the scope of the interior work. Full dashboard replacements at mid-cycle are rare in volume production; most manufacturers confine refreshes to trim updates, display software changes, and revised colour palettes. Lexus rebuilt the centre console, instrument panel, and dashboard simultaneously. That scope of change implies either that the original interior aged faster than planned — a conclusion Motor1's September 2024 coverage reached explicitly — or that Lexus accelerated an interior development programme originally scoped for a full-generation replacement. The company has not said which. Pricing for the refreshed model in any market was not confirmed at the time of announcement. Honda's decision to hold North American product introductions until the 2027 CR-V redesign shows how competitor refresh timing affects segment momentum; Lexus appears unwilling to cede ground during that gap.
Structural Changes That Affect NVH and Handling
Lexus engineers reshaped the engine block for greater rigidity — the stated purpose is noise and vibration control. Sound-absorbing material was added to the rear bumper, rear doors, and centre pillars. Lexus claims combined engine and road noise falls by around 20 percent as a result. Floor rigidity increases by approximately 25 percent, which the company links directly to steering response improvement and vibration reduction at the contact patch. The front suspension tower, reworked and integrated with the front pillar structure, gains 30 percent more rigidity — a change that typically reduces lateral flex during cornering without requiring suspension geometry changes. For the F Sport trim specifically, 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and rear-bumper aerodynamic elements are standard fitment. Whether those aero elements produce a measurable drag coefficient change was not disclosed in Lexus's release material. Tariff exposure on European deliveries may affect final pricing: ongoing US tariff moves and European IVA discussions add cost uncertainty to imported Japanese models sold in both markets.
The NX nameplate first appeared at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show as a 2015 model — making 2027 its thirteenth year in production across two generations. Lexus has not confirmed whether the existing 275-hp turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder NX 350 carries forward unchanged to the refreshed range in all markets. No US launch date has been set.
