Intro: The Government of Kerala set its sight on boosting the local industry and decided to manufacture motor powered autorickshaws. So Kerala Automobiles Ltd was incorporated in 1978 and the company started its commercial production of petrol propelled auto rickshaws in 1984 with technical collaboration of Automobile products of India Ltd (API), Mumbai.
In 1988 KAL started production of diesel three wheelers using diesel engines from Grieves Ltd, later Elgi units were also added to the range.
Apart from India, KAL three wheelers are also plying the roads of other countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Guatemala.
KAL has been awarded the ISO 9001 Certification.
Current plans include increasing the manufacturing capacity to 15000 and later to 30000 units. |
