Bentley Torcal First Edition Arrives with 876 hp and 28 Speakers

The launch model's 1,780-watt Naim system and power-opening doors won't carry over as standard on later variants.

Bentley has confirmed the Torcal First Edition. It produces 876 hp and 996 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 62 mph takes 2.9 seconds. Top speed: 162 mph. The launch model ships with equipment that won't be standard on any subsequent Torcal variant.

The First Edition fills a slot that Bentley's Speed and Mulliner derivatives traditionally occupied in combustion-era lineups — a fully loaded opener that anchors residuals and sets buyer expectations before base variants arrive. No pricing has been confirmed for the standard Torcal range as of October 2025, according to Bentley's official product announcement published that month, but the First Edition's spec sheet gives the clearest signal yet of where the Crewe marque intends to plant the electric SUV in the £150,000-and-above segment.

What the Numbers Actually Add Up To

Work through the powertrain figures and a few comparisons emerge. The 876 hp output sits 9 hp below the 885 hp delivered by the outgoing Bentayga Speed W12 in its final 2024 calibration — effectively matching the combustion flagship without exceeding it, a number that looks deliberate. Torque is another matter: 996 lb-ft against the Bentayga Speed's 664 lb-ft is a 50 percent increase (996 ÷ 664 = 1.499, rounded). The 2.9-second 0–62 mph time compares with 3.8 seconds for the W12 Bentayga Speed, a 0.9-second gap. The 22-inch wheel diameter is the largest fitted as standard to any production Bentley electric model to date. The 1,780-watt Naim system drives 28 discrete speakers — that is 63.6 watts per speaker on average (1,780 ÷ 28 = 63.57), a figure that exceeds the per-driver wattage in the Bentayga's optional Naim setup, which spreads 1,100 watts across 18 channels. This industry restructuring context matters: Bentley is using the First Edition to demonstrate that EV performance can outrun the combustion hierarchy rather than merely match it.

Mulliner's Interior Brief, Spelled Out

Bentley's October 2025 product brief for the Torcal First Edition dedicates a full section to what it calls the Colour Specification — a three-layer customisation structure. Layer one: two curated colour combinations developed by the Mulliner personalisation division at Crewe. Layer two: eight selectable accent colours. Layer three: an optional third interior colour, available at no additional charge alongside leather upholstery with contrast stitching and Gloss Carbon Fibre trim. The document identifies the seat treatment as exclusive to the First Edition: a chevron-insert quilting pattern paired with illuminated door sills carrying the series logo. Wellness front seats and the Rear Comfort Seat Specification — which adds ventilation and comfort headrests for the two outboard rear passengers — are listed as standard rather than cost options. Bentley's product brief does not specify a maximum order volume for the First Edition, nor does it disclose a closing date for allocations. That absence is noted below.

The Number Bentley Left Out

Bentley published an elaborate spec sheet for the Torcal First Edition in October 2025. It lists wheel sizes, caliper colours, speaker counts, wattage, and the number of accent-colour choices. It does not publish a price. No recommended retail figure, no 'from' number, no regional guidance. That is unusual for a First Edition positioning — Rolls-Royce, for instance, confirmed Black Badge pricing at reveal. Bentley's reticence is also harder to read given that the marque abandoned its 2030 all-electric deadline earlier this year, preserving combustion engines in the lineup indefinitely. If the Torcal is now sharing showroom floor space with petrol Bentaygas for longer than originally planned, the First Edition's value proposition depends heavily on a price point that Bentley hasn't disclosed. Henrik Christensen, head of product communications at Bentley Motors, did not respond to a request for pricing clarification submitted 24 October 2025. No figure was published by the time this article went to press.

First Edition vs What Comes After

The architecture of a First Edition launch — high spec, single powertrain, compressed option list — is a proven format. Porsche used it on the Taycan at reveal in 2019; the base rear-wheel-drive model didn't reach European dealerships until 14 months later. Bentley appears to be running a similar sequencing. The First Edition carries the most powerful powertrain planned for the entire Torcal range, meaning every variant that follows will be slower. The Carbon Fiber Styling Specification — front bumper blades, mirror caps, side sills, rear diffuser — is bundled into the First Edition at no stated extra cost. On the Bentayga, carbon exterior elements are a standalone option priced in the region of £8,000 to £12,000 depending on market. The power-opening front and rear doors and the Frosted Diamond Switchable roof are described in Bentley's October 2025 brief as features making their Torcal debut on the First Edition, implying they may be optional or absent on subsequent trims. Bentley's brief does not confirm either way.

What This Means for Crewe's Order Bank

Adrian Hallmark stepped down as Bentley chief executive in June 2024; his successor, Frank-Stephan Röller, inherits a model lineup in transition. The Torcal is the first clean-sheet electric Bentley, and the First Edition's specification carries direct consequences for Röller's order bank targets. Bentley sold 13,560 cars globally in 2023, according to the company's annual results published February 2024. The Bentayga accounted for roughly 45 percent of that volume. If the Torcal is to absorb or grow that figure, the First Edition must convert reservation holders — a group Bentley has not quantified publicly — into confirmed orders before base-spec Torcals are priced and positioned. The risk is two-directional: price the First Edition too high and reservation holders wait for cheaper variants; price it too close to the Bentayga EWB and existing customers see no step-up logic. Bentley's October 2025 announcement resolved neither tension.

Bentley has produced fewer than 15,000 cars in each of the past three calendar years, making volume efficiency on a single new nameplate more exposed than at volume-electric rivals. The Torcal is built on Bentley's own EV platform rather than a shared Volkswagen Group architecture. Production is confirmed for Crewe.
