Intro: Maarten de Bruijn built an Audi-powered quirky looking sportscar in the early 1990s called the Silvertris. This has attracted the attention of local car collector and businessmann Victor Muller who has taken over the project and renamed the company to Spyker Cars. Spyker was the first internationally recognized Dutch automobile and airplane maker during the early 1900s.
The first Spyder was exhibited at the Birmingham Motor Show in October 2000 and won a Design Award instantly. It was followed quickly by the closed Laviolette (a tribute to the original Spyker chief engineer) and now the company is looking at the LeMans 24-hour-race with its Double 12. There's also the Double 12S, a road-going version.
Production is currently running at a rate of 8 cars per month. US deliveries have also commenced.
