The Russian AvtoVAZ company sent the first batch of its VAZ 21093 Samara kits to ZAZ in Zaporozhye, Ukraine late last week. This is the first time that the biggest Russian and the biggest Ukranian carmaker cooperate. — AvtoVAZ transfers production of its 21043 to IzhAuto.
In Ukraine VAZ Lada models were so far assembled by LuAZ, AntoRus and KremenchugAvtoGAZ. — AvtoVAZ at the Russian International Autosalon.
ZAZ is controlled by Ukravto and they joined forces with their rival, Bogdan who controls LuAZ. In 2003 ZAZ plans to assemble 10,000 Samaras in two body styles: 5-door hatchback and 4-door limousine. Production is planned to be increased to 25,000 units in 2004 and eventually it is planned that a self-designed engine will be installed instead of the VAZ units. — Renault's new vehicle production in Russia.
