Daihatsu Motor Co introduced a new generation of its Mira minivan in Japan.
The Mira nameplate was first applied to a Daihatsu minicar in 1980. It was known as the Cuore in Europe. The 2nd generation Mira was introduced in 1990, the 3rd in 1994. During the last 22 years more than 4,5 million units were produced of the different variations. — Subaru Stella minicar.
The new model was previewed at the 2002 Tokyo Motor Show as the Daihatsu UF. It follows on the path of the recently introduced new Move.
One of the greatest challenges in minivan design is to increase interior space while the exterior dimensions are fixed. The 3395 mm long Mira features a spacious interior, specially for business. Interior length is 1890 mm, interior height is 1240 mm. Front and rear doors open a full 90 degrees. — revised March.
The 660 cc engines feature electronically controlled fuel injection, DVVT (dynamic variable valve timing), as well as electronic throttle control. Power ranges from the basic EF-SE engine, capable of 35 kW (48 bhp) to the top-of-the-line EF-DET Turbo with 47 kW (64 bhp).
Equipment includes access to advanced IT functions including DVD navigation, schedule management, and hands-free mobile phone operation, plus e-mail and site display. Rear seats are adjustable to create a flat cargo space. — 2005 Geneva International Motor Show.
The car is available in two versions: as the Mira and the slightly different Mira Avy. Monthly sales target are 8000 units.
