Intro: Now the key production center in Central Europe, the Polish Fiat history goes back to the 1930s.
The 2nd World War was followed by a two decades break before the first new Polski Fiat appeared in 1967. Polski Fiat shot to fame with the tiny 126 which was discontinued in 2000. Plus during the 1990s various CKD assembly operations took place, the last of them, the Uno was discontinued in 2002.
The Tychy facility is mainly used to produce entry-level Fiat models: Cinquecento, followed by the Seicento. It is also the sole-manufacturing location for the Panda minicar, making it the biggest automotive plant in Poland.
The Seicento will be replaced with the new 500 in 2007. The new 500 will also spawn the second-generation Ford Ka, which will also be manufactured alongside the Fiat version.
Beside this, Fiat has a powetrain operation in Bielsko-Biala, making Fiat one of the biggest automotive investors in the country. |
