As an addition to our previous news story here are a couple more images taken at the recent Tokyo Motor Show. Yes, there were a great number of new cars and all of them were accompanied by one or more nice ladies who were eager to be photographed. Only a couple of foreign makers (Alfa and Volkswagen) took the trouble to hire European hostesses, all the others relied on the charm of Asian ladies which was further enhanced by their dress (or to be precise, in several cases the lack of their dress).
Toyota didn’t take the trouble to exhibit the better part of its 60-strong line-up. Rather they focussed on new models, like the funky Yaris/Vitz-based Toyota Sienta, the Raum and the newly introduced European-sourced Avensis. Also new technologies were exhibited, most of them featuring hybrid powertrains. The Toyota PM future city commuter also attracted lots of attention. — Toyota's sustainability concepts at Tokyo Show.
Nissan celebrated its 70th birthday with a strange-looking sportscar, called the Jikoo. Said to be inspired by the 1930s Datsun Roadster with headlight covers mimicking Japanese lampions it definitely looked OTT. Other concepts from Nissan included a new luxury car, called the Fuga, a minicar and an MPV.
The Honda booth was full of new Odyssey MPVs in various guises and equipment levels. The HSC concept car looked the part, while the Kiwami luxury saloon highlighted the difference between Asian and Western culture again. — Honda's display at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show.
And there was the Carozzeria special exhibition which featured such tiny makers and tuners as Brabus, Grinnall and TVR from abroad with the cute-looking Choro Q minicars, the Geneva-favourite Ohno Naomi IV (oh, no), the British-bred Japanese-marketed Vemac RD200 and other oddities. — new Nissan GT-R supercar.
