Alfa Romeo introduced a revamped Alfa Romeo 156 range in Italy. Available from 21 June the restyling was carried out by Giorgio Giugiaro.
More than 540,000 cars were sold since the original version was introduced in 1997. Interesting to notice, the mix of sales based on engine-variations in 2002. In Europe, as an example, the 156 Alfa and Sportwagon equipped with JTD diesel engine made up 76% of total sales, while versions sport (2,0 JTS manual change and Selespeed, 2,5 V6 and GTA) represents furthe 11% on the total. The customers, then, divide themselves fairly between those who choose sedan (51%) and those that prefer the version Sportwagon (49%). Giugiaro’s Italdesign styling house which created the stunning Brera lately revamped the car inside and out. The front now looks similar to that of the Brera concept car.
In the interior, a new type of fabric called the Alfatex was used on the seat covers and elsewhere. There are leather options as well. Increased level of equipment marks the new 156 range with bi-zone climate, uprated hi-fi and so on. — BMW X5's major enhancements.
In addition to the existing line-up of petrol and diesel engines join the latest generation common rail diesels: 5-cylinder 2.4 JTD Multijet 20v capable of 129 kW (175 bhp) and 385 Nm and 1.9 JTD Multijet 16v with 103 kW (140 bhp). — BMW's 2003 developments.
TI (Tourisme International) was the designation on many sporting Alfas back in the 1960s. Now it returns on a sporty version of the 156. Suspension tweaks, new alloys (215/45 17″), front and rear spoilers, leather-covered interior marks the 156 TI.
