Originally introduced in 1996 with the three-door bodystyle, the A3 is another of the shared platform (VW Golf) models that have become an important part of the VW Group ethos. The same applies to the engines, but as Audi is recognised as a ’technology-first’ provider, four-wheel-drive (Quattro) is provided for the VW engines that are used in different forms in the other Group brands.
