Intro: The factory was set up in the 1980s to manufacture the AvtoVAZ designed Oka minicar.
In March, 2005 Severstal-Avto, owner of UAZ bought 99.6 per cent of shares in the company. The Naberezhnye Chelny facility is used for SsangYong assembly which commenced in December, 2005. Oka production will be continued until the Summer of 2006. From 2007 Fiat models will also be assembled. |
