There were a couple of new model introductions on the Chinese market recently. Here’s a selection of the best:
Maker of the controversial QQ, a Daewoo Matiz lookalike SAIC-Chery introduced its new model powered by a 1.6-litre 85 kW engine – the same unit which propels the Mini Cooper. The Chinese name Quyin has a special reference to the Mount Everest mountain. Its styling is an update on Qirui, a locally built Series I Seat Toledo (pic 1-2) — Honda's new auto plant in China.
The company launched its 2nd generation Qianlima. It is still a previous generation Accent (Verna) with some modifications. The new version is equipped with 1.6-liter DOHC and 1.3-liter SOHC engines, featuring both manual and automatic transmissions (pic 3)
For a couple of years the company has been producing estate-cum-SUV models based on Honda technology. Latest model is the Rabo SR-V utility which slightly resembles the Honda CR-V (pic 4-6). — FAW and Toyota's joint production agreement.
Shanghai-Maple
Shanghai Maple Automobile Co., Ltd which belongs to the Geely Group unveiled its new M203 Maple. It is essentially a Meilu JMStar JJ7130 hatchback with a new name. The car is powered by a self-designed MR479Q engine, a spin-off of the Toyota 8A-FE unit used in earlier models- while Geely is being sued by Toyota over trademark infringement and other issues. — Citroën C-Triomphe's Chinese market debut.
The new factory has an annual capacity of 40000 cars features its own stamping, welding, coating and general assembly production line.
