September 13, 2002 – TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today the sales kickoff of its completely redesigned Caldina-a “new-century sports specialty wagon” that injects excitement into the station wagon experience. — Crown Majesta's complete redesign.
“Our goal was to recreate the Caldina with a new special appeal of being fun to drive, while maintaining its inherited station wagon functionality,” explains Chief Engineer Shigeyuki Hori. “For this, we settled on ‘The Touring Machine’ as our theme and were able to achieve an exciting design and extremely driver-attuned performance.”
The hallmarks of the new medium-class Caldina-an elevated level of driver responsiveness, powerful yet elegant styling and superb utility-are made possible by a number of attributes. — Toyota Harrier.
On the power front, the high-performance engines include a 2.0-liter twin-cam turbo that can be mated with the new Sports Sequential Automatic Shift. Meanwhile, newly engineered suspension and a high-rigidity body provide outstanding handling ease and stability. On the styling side, a bullet-themed design makes for a powerful and sleek futuristic look. Inside, rounded touches in the cockpit instill visions of adventure on the road, while excellent utility is ensured by the flatness of the luggage space. The Caldina also features ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), VSC (Vertical Stability Control) and the latest GOA collision-safety body. All models meet J-ULEV, J-TLEV or J-LEV standards.
