Intro: The first Toyota assembly plant in North America was established with the help of GM back in 1983. Five years later a newly erected plant in Kentucky started local production of the Camry and since then the American Toyota operations grew rapidly.
In 2001 a new engine plant was established in Huntsville, Alabama which now produces V8 engines for the Tundra pick-up. This is Toyota's ninth production center in North America.

A new SUV, called the Sequoia was introduced which is based on the Tundra pick-up and they share the same assembly lines at Indiana. Also in January, 2003 the Siena minivan entered into production there.
In September, 2003 first Lexus ever produced outside Japan rolled off the line at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc
Other North manufacturing plants include Toyota Canada and NUMMI.
It is rumoured that Toyota will use surplus capacity at Subaru's Indiana plant from 2006. |
