Intro: Established with the partcipation of the Swedish Volvo and the Japanese Mitsubishi Motors company the plant in Born, Limburg is the only large-scale manufacturer of passenger cars in the Netherlands.
A quarter ’ more than 400 ’ of all the industrial robots in the Netherlands are in use at the NedCar factory. With a workforce of more than four thousand people, NedCar is one of the largest employers in Limburg and is among the top 40 companies in the Netherlands ranked by turnover. It has a maximum capacity of 280.000 cars.
The Volvo S40/V40 family and the Mitsubishi Carisma which shared the same platforms and a Carisma-based MPV, called the Space Star were being built at the plant. As Volvo was sold to Ford the Volvo S40/V40 disappeared in 2004.
By 2005 the Smart Forfour and its Mitsubishi-badged sibling, the Colt were made at the plant, with a Euro-only MPV, called the Space Star.
