Intro: Despite the fact that ARO lived in a protected environment for decades they were able to develop competitive products.
The Aro 10 series enjoyed popularity in Italy and France during the 1980s and early 1990s. However lack of financial resources prevented continuous development.
So the latest Aro model, named Super is in fact a combination of the ancient Aro 24 mechanics and the not-so-old but outdated Aro 10 styling.
Power comes from a recently developed turbo-diesel engine which passes the Euro 2 emission standards.
Aro was bought by Jose Perez, a businessman in Florida who set up Cross Lander a Brazilian Aro assembly plant in 2002. The aim is to bring Aro back to the USA. It looks like an unsurmountable task, though by late 2005 Cross Lander received permission to sell its off-roader in the USA.
However the situation at the Romanian plant looks hopeless. |
