Intro: Although the history of Ford in India goes way back to the beginning of the 20th century in modern times Ford re-entered into the local market through a tie-up with the Mahinda Motors company to assemble Ford Escorts.
But in 1995 Ford has set up its up-to-date integrated manufacturing plant in Maraimalai Nagar.
The plant which is based on a 250 acre campus and spans the entire spectrum of critical automobile manufacturing functions was inaugurated in 1999.
It supports a manufacturing capacity of 100,000 units per annum at full stream.
The Fiesta-based Ikon limousine is produced here supported by the local component industry which provides 70 per cent of the parts. |
