Intro: Delta Motor Co was established in December, 1986 resulting from a management buy-out led by a group of local GM senior managers. It was the local Isuzu and Opel assembler and distributor. In late 1997 General Motors has returned to the South African scene and acquired a 49 percent equity stake in Delta Motors which was increased to 100 per cent in 2004. Subsequently Delta Motor Corp was renamed to General Motors South Africa. The company employs more than 3 500 people at its two vehicle assembly plants in Port Elizabeth.
