Intro: Mecom Group, a local business venture with a wide range of products decided to enter the automobile business in 2003.
The company took over the assets of a former Kia assembly plant, Naya Daur Motors. A new company was set up, called Karakoram Motors (Pvt) Ltd.
Karakoram set up distributing agreements with two Chinese companies: Changan and Zhongxing.
Import of Changan pickup trucks and vans commenced in 2004. First single-cab Changan pickup was assembled in June, 2005, to be followed by the assembly of double-cab pickup trucks and vans in 2006. |
