Intro: The first Birchfield Jaguars were built about 20 years ago in England By C V Shapecraft, a specialist motor body builder headed by Clive Smart. The firm was well known for the outstanding quality of their work and were regarded as one of the best in their field. Over a 10 year period a small but significant (18 in all) number of cars were produced based on the famous Jaguar SS 100 of 1937
After production from the Shapecraft factory ceased Nicky Lotay, a Shapecraft employee emigrated to Australia, bringing with him the Birchfield drawings and Number 18 car as a pattern. Nikki has continued to build the now famous Birchfields in Perth Western Australia and in spite of serious on-going health problems is completing a small number of cars which are now offered for sale.
