Intro: SOMACA (Soci’t’ Marocaine des Constructions Automobiles) was established in 1958 to assemble Fiat and Simca models locally. Today it is the sole automotive assembler in the country.
This plant must be the only place in the world where arch-rival Renault Kangoo and the PSA Berlingo/Partner models are assembled under one roof!
In 2004 Renault took over the majority of shares and Fiat production was stopped. Preparations are under way for the Dacia/Renault Logan to be produced from the end of 2005. |
