Intro: LuAZ was established in the 1960s to produce a small jeep-like off-roader. First models were produced jointly ZAZ. Later models are often confused with UAZ jeeps as the name of the two companies look too similar.
By 2005 Luaz became one of the biggest Ukrainian assembler of Lada. New agreements with Hyundai and Kia saw the start of SKD assembly of their products by the end of 2005.
Also in 2005 the company raised USD 26 million from foreign investors through an initial public offering of 8 per cent of its stock.
By 2007 Luaz, which is controlled by bus manufacturer, Bodgan Group will have a new factory, capable of producing 120,000 cars per year, in Cherkask. |
