Intro: Toyota now has an extensive range of manufacturing bases throughout China since they joined forces with FAW Group in June, 2002.
In addition to setting up Tianjin Toyota, the FAW Tianjin Xiali facility was upgraded and Sichuan-Toyota, assembler of the Coaster bus, was partly taken over by FAW. At Sichuan Toyota assembly of the Land Cruiser Prado commenced in October, 2003 while at the home base of FAW in Chang Chun the Land Cruiser 100 is being assembled.
Tianjin Toyota is also thriving. In February, 2004 local assembly of the Corolla was started.
By March, 2005 a 2nd plant was erected in the Tianjin Economic and Tech. Zone where production of the Crown commenced in March, 2005.
The two plants now have a combined capacity of 220,000 units per year.
