Intro: Ukranian investors set up a USD15 million assembly plant at the city of Uzhhorod, Zakarpattya Oblast to produce Skodas in Ukraine.
The Skoda plant is located in the Zakarpattya Special Economic Zone, giving it tax breaks that allow it to produce cars with a price tag 4 percent lower than their Czech-produced counterparts.
Trial production of the Fabia started in June, 2002 and altogether 2010 cars were assembled during the year.
In 2003 a new agreement with Volkswagen provided the opportunity for SKD assembly of the Passat, to be followed by other models. By 2005 more and more models of the Volkswagen Group are being assembled locally.
In late 2005 Eurocar launched a new assembly line which will see a move away from SKD operations and towards CKD methods of the Skoda Octavia
