Intro: Jiangnan (South of the River) Machinery Works, established in 1952, is a large key enterprise of China Weapon Industries Group. Car production started in 1988 with the limited production of the mini-car Jiangnan JHN 710, later renamed JNJ 7050. From the early 1990s the Suzuki Alto minicar is being produced under license.
Through the years various other models were developed but still the Alto is the leading product of the company. Current capacity is 50000 cars per annum.
In the Summer of 2005 Jiangnan introduced its new Demon, their own version of the Tongtian Glow. It went on sale as the City Spirit.
A sedan, with independent intellectual property rights, called the Fengguang (Scenery) which was originally introduced at the 2004 Beijing Auto Show went on sale in August, 2005.
By 2006 Jiangnan has absorbed Jilin Tongtian, but soon afterwards it stopped operating. In early 2007 Zotye Auto bought the company and resumed production of the Alto. |
