Intro: In 1996 the Fujian Motor Industry Group which already possessed a Mazda assembly plant made an agreement with China Motor Co. of Taiwan to set up an assembly plant China. The 50/50 % joint venture was named Dongnan (South East). Assembly of the Dongnan Delica started in 1997. A new factory costing close to USD 1 billion was built outside Fuzhou. Production of the Mitsubishi Freeca was decided in 1998 and two years later the first Dongnan Freeca rolled of the line.
In March, 2003 the new Lioncel, based on a Mitsubishi Lancer went into production and by the end of the year 35699 were made. |
