Intro: Reverend Sun Myung Moon who is better known for his religious activities owns Pyeongwha (Peace) Motors. That company teamed up with the Italian Fiat company and the North Korean state-owned Ryonbong Corporation in 2000 and a new assembly plant was opened in April, 2002.
As the Fiat assembly operation was not making money, Pyeonghwa embarked on the local assembly of a Chinese pickup truck and an SUV. Dandong Shuguang became the selected partner and in 2004 the Cuckoo series was unveiled. Cuckoo 2 is an SUV, while Cuckoo 3 is a pickup truck, based on Shuguang CKD kits, but modified locally. |
