Intro: Chevron Engineering moved their light Engineering workshops from Onehunga out west to Massey around 18 months ago. Alongside the ubiquitous ’classic’ Chevron model for the dedicated wind in the hair enthusiast, the Frey family-owned Chevron company are heading out into serious clubman competition, and putting a lot of effort into aerodynamics and weight saving. Aprisa is Spanish for ’quickly’, and their slip-pery Aprisa model is based entirely on Mazda RX7 (S4 and S5) components.
Dan Frey has brought substantial knowledge from the USA in the latest composite materials, and a fully composite monocoque model is being developed. The composite monocoque weighs 163 kgs and has a torsional stiffness of 6180 Nm per degree (compared to a respectable 2700 for their Aprisa), and has some exciting hardware under the low bonnet. Chevron are also agents for the Microtech engine Management System for any Japanese engine. |
