Intro: Formed in 1970, Dutton Cars became the UK's largest and best known component car manufacturer up until its demise in 1989 when the existing models were sold off by MD Tim Dutton. During that period, over 8000 vehicles were manufactured and at one time the company employed 80 staff and was producing 22 cars every week. A feat that is unlikely to be beaten within the specialist car market. Today Dutton specialises in amphibious cars, the first of these having been launched (literally) in 1994. The company operates from a 5000sq/ft unit employing some six staff. |
