Intro: Sociedad Automoviles Espana de Turismo was set up in the 1950s to produce a Spanish national car as ordered by Franco.
However, as soon as Franco was deposed and the country returned to a democracy, Seat realised that it would not survive without a serious partner. Fiat’s bid was unsuccessful and the Volkswagen Group stepped into the fray during the 1980s. Gradually, Seat products have become increasingly like its German parent’s. Currently with the formation of the Audi Brand Seat gained some independence. Under the guidance of Walter d'Silva a new styling era is heralded with the introduction of the Altea MPV at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show.
Altea has been joined by the similar-looking Leon and Toledo in 2005.
