Intro: United Motor Works (UMW) was established in Singapore back in 1917. Today it is one of the largest locally-owned companies in Malaysia with a diversity of interests ranging from the motor vehicles, distribution of principal industrial equipment, to manufacturing, engineering, construction, agriculture, leasing and insurance.
Its subsidiary, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. founded in cooperation with Toyota Motor Corp. and Toyota Tsusho Corp is the local Toyota distributor for decades. Another subsidiary Assembly Services Sdn. Bhd. is the local Toyot assembler since 1968.
UMW also has a 38.0 per cent investment in Perodua, the 2nd national car, which uses the licence of the Japanese Daihatsu, another Toyota Group member. |
