Intro: Ewert Smith, a local farmer created the URI all-terrain-vehicle in 1995. Uri is a Nama word for "jump" and the car raised the attention of other farmers at local off-road racers where it jumped brilliantly. Mr. Smith soon realized the need for expansion and established a company to increase the production. By now Uri vehicles are also manufactured under licence in South Africa. The Uri 4x4 vehicle concept is to build a simple, robust and no frills vehicle with good off-road capability, that can do the job. Uri's are mostly used on farms, in mines, for policing and related heavy duty environments. The company seeks to expand production by way of licence agreements to other continents. |
