Intro: AAV is a joint venture between the Arab Organization for Industrialization (A.O.I.-51% ownership) and DaimlerChrysler Corporation (DCE-49% ownership). It started assembling vehicles in 1977. The plant, a 130,000 square meter facility is located on the outskirts of Cairo where assembly of the Jeep Cherokee sport utility vehicles started in 1992.
In 1995 Peugeot contracted the factory for the assembly of the 405 limousine. Three years later Kia appeared at the gates with the Pride compact sedan. Over the years there were other vehicles, like Citro’n Xantia, Xsara, Fiat Ritmo - and others.
Current capacity stands at 8000 vehicles per year with 600 workers.
AAV is supplying jeeps to the Egyptian military. In 2003 the first batch of a localized version of the Wrangler, with long-wheelbase, called the TJL was supplied and later it became available on the civil market as well. |
