Intro: Bajaj Auto was established by Jamnalal Bajaj, a friend of Mahatma Ghandi to sell motorcycles. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Kamalnayan who started to build an empire in 1947. Among other things he obtained a production license in 1959 from the Ialian Piaggio corporation.
From 1961 when the annual production was about 4000 units, today Bajaj Auto is the market leader with annual production in excess of 1.35 million units of various motorcycles, scooters and three-wheeler auto-rickshaws with an annual turnover of USD 936 million. The Bajaj Group now comprises 27 different companies.
