Intro: It was an American enterpreneur, Henry Kaiser who established an assembly plant in Cordoba, back in 1955. Industria Kaiser Argentina (IKA) assembled the American Kaiser cars and later the French Renault Dauphine as well. In 1967 Renault took a majority stake in the company and in 1975 renamed it to Renault Argentina S.A.
The Santa Isabel plant is still one of the most important production base in the Mercosur region and produces about 120,000 cars per year although the local economical crisis has affected its sales.
Production in 2003: a final 211 units of the old Clio, 7007 units of the Clio II, 4161 units of Kangoo and 4161 units of Megane. |
