Intro: In November 1988, the first Corolla sedan rolled off the production line at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC), in Cambridge, Ontario.
Locally produced Corollas won three consecutive Best Vehicle Built in Canada awards between 1989-1991.
It was named the most efficient car assembly plant in North America by the 1999 North American Harbour Report, an annual productivity study released by Harbour and Associates, Inc.
Toyota has recognized these accolades with investment and expansion. A test track was the first major addition to the plant in 1992. That was followed in 1995 by the addition of an engine plant, and in 1997 by a major expansion that more than doubled the plant's size and capacity. The plant currently sits on 400 acres of land.

From September, 2003 the Lexus RX330 is also being assembled. In 2003 13334 RX330, 78781 Toyota Matrix, 135428 Corolla have been assembled locally. |
