Tired of asking the “small car” question? Happy New Year. Here’s the answer. DaimlerChrysler AG and the Chinese auto maker Chery have signed a letter of intent to produce a car smaller than the Dodge Caliber. It’s not a done deal however until it gets the final OK from the DaimlerChrysler Supervisory board and the Chinese government. We’ve said all along that in order to build a business case to produce a small passenger car, we’d need a partner, and we found a good one in Chery–a quality, cost-effective vehicle manufacturer. — MG production resumption at Longbridge.
The fact is, while there’s a market for such vehicles it would be tough to make much money on them by building the cars in North America. — HB experience developments.
