Intro: Suzuki first set up an American distribution company in 1985 which sold the Samurai mini SUV. The Swift and the Vitara, known was the Sidekick was launched in 1988.
By the late 1990s Suzuki had a full line-up in USA with Swift, Esteem, Vitara, Grand Vitara and XL-7. A brief diversion was the funky, but rather pointless X90.
From 2004 the American Suzuki line-up is complemented with products from GM-Daewoo in South Korea. GM and Suzuki also has a JV to manufacture SUVs, the CAMI plant in Canada. |
