Intro: General Motors Venezolana, C.A. began operations in 1944 under the name GM Interamericana, importing SUP GM products. Assembly operations began in 1948 in Caracas, with the company renamed GM de Venezuela. In 1979, GM acquired the Chrysler plant located in Valencia (100 miles west of Caracas). It closed the Caracas plant in 1983, and all assembly operations were concentrated in Valencia where in 2000 a new paint plant was opened. The paint shop is a four-story building encompassing an area of 280,000 square feet.
The company produces cars and trucks for the Venezuelan and Andean export markets. |
