Intro: The Micro is the first car ever to be manufactured in Sri Lanka where automobiles are still luxury accessories.
Transmec Engineering, the local distributor of Renault heavy duty vehicles conceived the idea of a self-developed microcar in 1999. The first "Micro" was completed in mid-2001 and in July, 2002 the Board of Investment provided state support for the project.
Production was started in 2003. Micro Cars is also assembling Zhongyi minivans, supplied by Chinese Harbin Hafei Automobile Co. Local assembly of the Hafei Lobo will commence in Spring, 2005. |
