Intro: The joint wenture was set up in 1990 between Dongfeng Motors and Citro’n.
The first trial assembly took place in 1990 in a factory in Xiangfan. Later a completely new factory was built in Hanyang District, Wuhan City. Potential capacity was 150.000 units per year, with a possibility to enlarge the factory to produce 300.000 units.
The Citro’n ZX Volcane was rebaptised the Fukang DC7140 in China (’Prosperity and Health’). By 1997 four versions of the Fukang were made: a 1360cc 4-speed "RX" and "RS", a 5-speed "RG" and a 1587cc 5-speed "AL with Bosch fuel injection. In August, 1998 a limousine version was announced, which was especially designed for the Chinese market by Heuliez under the codename "N23".
In February 2001 the Elysee entered into production. Later assembly of the Picasso family MPV has also commenced in Wuhan
At the coming of the new century, DFM and PSA Group, France have upgraded their cooperation to a higher level and widen the scope of their collaboration. An additional 1 billion RMB has been jointly invested to reach a total amount of 7 billion RMB as the registration capital of DPCA. Now the Technical Center has been set up, two new platforms have been established for production. Within the coming years, DPCA will endeavor to increase its annual output from 100,000 to 300,000 cars by introducing a new model each year between 2005-2009. |
