Intro: BMW Philippines, a joint venture between German carmaker BMW (70 per cent) and local businessman Jose Alvarez (30 per cent) formally opened a local assembly plant in April 2001 with very good results. Currently the 3-series is assembled there to avoid high import duties.
Due to its attractive shape, good financing options it became a success and the market share of BMW rose from 23.9 percent in 2000 to 52 percent in 2001
