Intro: This joint venture was originally set up by Beijing Automobile Works and American Motors Corporation (AMC) in the early 1980s. In 1987, Chrysler bought AMC and assumed AMCs role as joint venture partner. In 1998 the newly formed DaimlerChrysler took over 42.4 per cent of the stakes, while Beijing Auto Works holds the remaining 57.6 per cent.
From 2003 Mitsubishi off-roaders are also being assembled. First such model was the Pajero Sport, followed by the Outlander in January, 2004.
In December, 2004 Beijing and DaimlerChrysler embarked on the construction of a new plant for local production of the Mercedes-Benz C- and E-class. BJC was renamed to Beijing Benz-DaimlerChrysler Automobile Co.
